Cardio Imaging Device Combines Two Modalities into Single System
Forj Medical’s Director of Optics, Darcy Hart, co-authored an article in Medical Design Briefs with Conavi Medical CEO Tom Looby on the Novasight Hybrid™ System, the first intravascular imaging system to combine co-registered IVUS and OCT in a single device.
The authors explained the tradeoffs cardiologists have traditionally faced between the two imaging modalities, with IVUS offering superior depth penetration for larger vessels and OCT delivering up to ten times the resolution, and how combining both in a single catheter gives physicians a more comprehensive vessel assessment for more accurate diagnosis and treatment, backed by clinical evidence linking intravascular imaging to dramatically better patient outcomes.
They also previewed the next-generation Novasight, developed in partnership with Forj Medical’s optical engineers and scheduled for release in 2026, featuring refined image quality, improved imaging depth, a bedside controller, angio co-registration, AI-driven software features, and enhanced catheter deliverability, with Forj also serving as Conavi’s manufacturing partner.
